How To Get Featured In A Home Based Business Industry Report

So today I was featured in a new mini-mag that came out by Hector Cuevas called “The Entrepreneur Report”. It featured 4 home based business owner and some of their most valuable content.

The really cool thing is that everyone who is featured in it, is also promoting it. So that means a lot of traffic to my website and to the others who contributed. Cool huh?

You want that?….Sure you do…

So how did I do that? Well…I wrote some good content on my blog. My featured article was this one (which you may have already seen): How To Write An Article in 30 Minutes Even If You Failed English Class.

Good enough that someone very creative and innovative picked up on it and asked if I would be featured in his new report / mini-mag. That’s it. I didn’t ask. I didn’t beg…I just did what I thought was the best thing to do on my blog and that is give the best info that I can to my readers.

So if you’re not already blogging…you must get my free Sweet Leads Training which will go over every step with you to get setup and start blogging…and if you are already blogging make sure your content is unique, educational, entertaining and informative. Then continually blast it out there…someone, somewhere will pick up on it.  I promise.

And hey..if you have some good stuff already…contact Hector and see if you can be featured in his next report. :)

10 Ideas For What To Blog About

Often times I’m stuck with what to blog about about but lately it seems like if I just pay more attention to what is going on around me, there is actually too many ideas and not enough time to write all these posts…so today I thought I’d share a few of the ways I get inspired with topics to blog about.

#1 – Comments from my own blog. So many times people ask questions or share ideas that I hadn’t thought of or overlooked. These are sometimes the best posts because many of them end up as “How to’s” which seem to be very popular. BTW…you can get many more “How To’s” about blogging, network marketing and online marketing from my Sweet Leads Training.

#2 – Subscriber questions in response to my emails and/or training materials. After people read my emails or go through my training, many questions come up. These are again great “How To’s”.

#3 – Whatever training I’m currently going through. Personally I take a lot of training  (and I mean A LOT) in a number of different areas. So as I learn, I implement, then share…in mini bite sized pieces of course :)

#4 – Sites like Mashable.com, AllTop.com, TopOneReport.com, MLMUrls.com and what some other bloggers in our industry are blogging about. Sometimes I’ll read someone else post and then go blog about the same idea except I put my own spin and resources into it so it’s unique. But I get the original idea from another blogger.

#5 – What I’m working on. Whether it’s split testing, Facebook marketing or Twitter…whatever I’m implementing at the time is a good, timely topic to blog about. A great idea to actually encourage participation on you blog is when you’re implementing something and you’re stuck. You could ask your network for feedback or help. This can really help to get those comments rolling in.

#6 – The News. I barely watch TV or listen to the radio, but when there’s a big enough story, you’re bound to hear about it from someone..Or feel it. (I felt the Toronto earthquake a couple weeks ago…couldn’t help but look that up in the news…not that I’ve blogged about it, but I’m sure I could find a story or a lesson to be learned in there somewhere.

#7 – What your reading. I read. A lot. I hope you do too. If you’re in this industry of network marketing or even if you’re a traditional business owner, you always need to be educating yourself. And reading is a great way to do that. It’s also a great thing to share. Lessons from books you read. Crop ‘em up and spit em out in, again, “mini bite sized pieces”.

#8 – Family & Friends. What’s going on with them. Use their experiences to learn and share a lesson or inspiration. Look for lessons in the smallest of actions. IE: I made cup cakes the other day and I didn’t want to use any sugar or butter. I’m not vegan but I’ve drastically reduced my intake of animal products. I found a recipe, and they are delicious. So if you want to do something bad enough, you’ll find a way.

#9 – New Tools, Gidgets, Gadgets, Trinkets and Tokens. I am constantly stumbling across different sites or tools that are ingenious and will help other entrepreneurs. Just the other day I discovered HARO and shared it with my business women community. Check this blog post if you’re looking for any free press.

#10 – Self talk. Do you ever talk yourself in OR out of something? Catch yourself…and share your experience. What did you learn? What will you do next time? How did you handle it? Lessons that come from our direct experience are sometimes the most powerful and easy to write. (like this post…was easy cause I just ripped it off the top of my head). I hope you got some good value from this.

So there is no lack of inspiration and ideas for what to blog about, you just have to “seize the moment” as the graphic above says :) The more you do it, the easier it becomes and soon you’ll have so many ideas and  no enough time to blog about them all. Keep a notebook with you at all times and jot down your ideas…or pop ‘em into your phone notepad.

What other blog inspiration ideas do you have? How do you come up with ideas to blog about?

WordPress Newbies: How To Setup Your Sidebars (Widgets)

I’ve had a few people on my team ask me how to setup their sidebars on their blog. So instead of just walking them through it over the phone, I thought I’d make a video with all the instructions AND all the source code and graphics you’ll need. Keep in mind there are a lot more training videos in my Sweet Leads Training .

Plus I found a really cool piece of software that allows you to make simple submit buttons for your forms.

Anyways…here’s the video..the source code and other bits are below. If you have any questions…feel free to post them in the comments below and I’ll do my best to answer all of them.

Social Media Buttons Code (I’ve highlighted the areas you’ll want to change.)

Yellow highlighted areas are where you put the links to your social media pages.

Blue highlighted areas are where you put the links to the images that you get from your media library after you upload the images you want to use.

In my particular instance the BetterNetworker.com image comes directly from the Better Networker server. They provide the link for that.

How To Use Article Marketing To Get More Leads

You may have heard of article marketing but not quite sure what it is or how it can help your online marketing initiatives. In this article I attempt to explain what it is, how it can help your get more traffic AND how you can use some cool tools to exponentially increase your traffic using article marketing.

As many of you know I love internet marketing. I’ve been doing it for years after I attended one of Paul Tobeys three day internet marketing training seminars. It completely changed the way I thought about doing anything online.

Really there are three components to building any sort of business online.

1) Traffic

2) Conversions

3) Relationships

And these three things will lead to sales…which is really the goal of any business. So this article today I’m going to talk about the “traffic” part of this threesome.

There are many ways to get traffic.

The old adage of “Build it and they will come” just doesn’t work online. If Google doesn’t know and LOVE your website, then your traffic will be minimal.

One thing I teach people is that when doing any form of online marketing, you always have two audiences that you have to pay attention to.

  1. the human reader
  2. the Google reader.

In my opinion the human reader should always be your priority, but do not ignore what Google needs to read your page and rank it high. It is possible to give both these entities exactly what they need. Sometimes it just takes some creativity.

One of the oldest and most effective ways to get lots of highly targeted traffic to your website is to write articles. Writing articles establishes you as a leader in your industry. This is a perfect magnet for the “human reader”.

Writing articles and publishing them on numerous external (not your site) sites, establishes you (or your site) as an authority site with the “Google” reader. This is not a human by the way…it’s a program that scans millions (if not trillions) of web pages weekly.

When this “Google” reader finds links that are pointing back to a page on your site, Google give your site a point (not literally, cause no one really know how or what Google does), but when describing this to someone in person, I lick my index finger and pretend I’m adding a point to a score board. So …a point…or improved ranking.

The more of these “points” you get, the better you are ranked...and so next time someone goes to Google and searches for something you’re telling Google you know about, Google will look at all the sites it has indexed about that subject and will return the results that it feels are the most relevant.

So how does article marketing fit into this?

Well….when you write an article, you should first post it on your site. Wait a few days until Google has indexed it. To test this, go to Google and type in the exact url of your article.

For example if your article was here: http://www.mysite.com/myarticle.htm then type that into the Google search bar and see if Google returns your page in it’s results. If it does, you’re article has been indexed.

Once it’s indexed with Google, now is the time to start blasting (yes blasting, not just tinkering) it out into cyberspace. Putting it out on one or two sites won’t do that much for you.

When you submit your article to other sites you are allowed a bio section at the end of your article. This is probably the second most important part of your article. I say second because the first part is the article itself. If no one is reading it because it’s not interesting, then you’ve already “lost them at hello”.

If you think you can’t write or not sure what to write, check out my article here entitled “How To Write A Great Article in 30 Minutes Even If You Failed English”.

In the bio section, you can have 2-3 links which are directed back at your website or a particular page of your website.

Here’s a tip for you: In your bio, don’t talk about you.

This is one of the BIGGEST MISTAKES most people make when doing article marketing. And one I’ve made many times myself. Use this space to tell the reader…”What’s next for them…” Where can they find more information like this. Where get they get advanced information like this…etc. You can talk about you a bit, but I would keep the focus on them.

So you’re actually getting traffic from the human visitor (as they find your articles) and from Google, because Google will see those links (in the bio) back to your site and all those link backs help to build your site as an authority. The more you have of these the better!

You can put your article up on a site like ezinearticles.com or goarticles.com, but what I would recommend is using a tool like Traffic Geyser or Post Article Robot to literally blast the article out to hundreds of sites. These tools do this with a few clicks of your mouse. They do cost money, but in my opinion, if you want loads of traffic, they are worth every cent.

A free option can be found here http://spin2submit.co.za/. I’ve never used it so I can’t say much about it…but if you’re on a budget, it might be a good solution for you.

What other solutions do you know of…?

How has article marketing created a traffic jam at your website?
